"Looks like this domain isn't connected to a website yet" on Wix: how to fix it

Visitors see a Wix placeholder instead of your site. Either the site was never published, or the domain is not connected to the site you published. Both take a few minutes to fix.

What to do, in order

  1. Publish the site. Open the Wix Editor and click Publish at the top right. Saving is not publishing.
  2. Check the domain is assigned to this site. In your Wix dashboard open Domains. The domain must show as connected to the right site. If you have two sites, it is easy to connect the wrong one.
  3. If the domain was bought elsewhere, check the records. Wix shows the exact nameservers or A record and CNAME it wants. Run dig +short NS yourdomain.com and compare. A mismatch means the registrar still points somewhere else.
  4. Check the plan. Connecting a custom domain needs a paid Wix plan. If the plan lapsed, the domain disconnects.
  5. Wait for DNS. After a nameserver change, allow up to 48 hours. A record changes usually show within an hour.

Check it yourself

Run dig +short A yourdomain.com and dig +short A www.yourdomain.com. Compare both with what the Wix Domains page asks for. If either is different, that is the fault.
